Surfers and surfing fans from around the state and the world gathered on Higgins Beach on Sunday to celebrate International Surfing Day.
Organizers say the sport celebrates living a healthy lifestyle, and they hope to see more of it along Maine's coastline.
Organizers were expecting rain and calm waters, but instead were thrilled to find waves and sunshine.
